Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
From your location in Mayombe Forest, head towards the main road leading to Lopé National Park. Follow the signs for Lopé National Park (HG5F+GWM). The park entrance is accessible via a well-maintained road, but be cautious as some sections may be rugged. The drive may take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your exact starting point and traffic conditions. Make sure to have a map or GPS as cell service can be spotty.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, look for a local taxi-brousse (shared taxi) heading towards Lopé. These can often be found at central bus stations in nearby towns. You may need to transfer at a larger hub, such as Libreville, to catch a taxi-brousse heading directly to Lopé National Park. The journey can take 4-6 hours, depending on wait times and road conditions. Expect to pay between 10,000 to 20,000 CFA francs for the fare.
Walking
If you find yourself near the park entrance and prefer to walk, you can take a guided walking tour offered by local guides. These tours are a great way to explore the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife. Ensure you have proper hiking gear and sufficient water. Walking inside the park itself is also encouraged, but it's best to be accompanied by a guide for safety and to enhance your experience.
