Pongara Lodge, situated in Pointe Pongara, Gabon, is a hidden gem offering a unique blend of luxury and nature. Located within Pongara National Park, the lodge provides guests with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and easy access to the park's diverse ecosystems. The lodge's architecture integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, featuring eco-styled bungalows constructed from natural, beach-tone materials. The lodge features 11 units, including six eco-bungalows, each equipped with queen-size beds, crisp white linens, and ensuite bathrooms. Private balconies offer captivating views of the Atlantic surf and beachfront. The main lodge includes a restaurant and bar with equally tantalizing ocean views. Guests can enjoy local cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients, enhancing the immersive cultural experience. Pongara National Park is known for its remarkable diversity of primates, plants, and birds. Visitors can spot arboreal monkeys, forest elephants, and hippos. The park's marine reserve is a breeding ground for humpback whales, dolphins, and thousands of nesting sea turtles. Activities include guided nature walks, mangrove safaris, and visits to the Aventures Sans Frontières Sea Turtle Information and Museum. Whale watching tours are available during the dry season (May to mid-October), while turtle watching is best from November to March.

    Getting There

    Car

    If traveling by car from Libreville, head west on Avenue de la République, then turn left onto Route Nationale 1. Follow the signs for Pointe Pongara, approximately 20 km away. As you approach Pointe Pongara, look for signs directing you to Pongara Lodge, located near the beach at the end of the road. Note that the road leading to Pointe Pongara is about 15 km long. Parking is available near the lodge.

    Public Transport

    To reach Pongara Lodge via public transport, take a taxi-brousse (shared taxi) from Libreville to Pointe Pongara. Taxi-brousse stations are located near the city center. The fare is typically between 3000 to 5000 CFA francs (approximately $5 to $8) per person. The ride takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. From the drop-off point in Pointe Pongara, you can walk or take a local taxi to the lodge, about 5 km away. Be sure to specify Pongara Lodge to the driver.

    Boat

    Alternatively, consider a scenic boat ride from Libreville to Pointe Pongara. Arrange a boat taxi to take you along the coast. The boat ride can vary in price, but expect to pay around 10,000 CFA francs (about $15) per person. This option provides a unique perspective of the Estuary Province. Upon arrival at the jetty in Pongara National Park, a staff member will transfer you to Pongara Lodge in a vehicle.
