Discover more about Ali & Nino Statue

Located on the Batumi Boulevard, the Ali & Nino statue is a modern marvel and a poignant symbol of love and tolerance. Created by Georgian artist Tamar Kvesitadze in 2010, the 8-meter-high steel figures depict a man and a woman, named Ali and Nino, who represent different cultural backgrounds. The sculpture is inspired by the novel "Ali and Nino" by Azerbaijani author Kurban Said, a tale of a Muslim boy and a Christian girl in Baku during World War I. Their love story, often called the Caucasian Romeo and Juliet, transcends religious and cultural divides but ultimately ends in tragedy. Every evening, the figures begin their mesmerizing dance. Slowly, they move towards each other, eventually merging into a single form before separating again. This cycle repeats every ten minutes, embodying the themes of unity, separation, and the enduring power of love. The statue is especially beautiful at night when it is illuminated with colorful lights. The surrounding area offers stunning views of the Black Sea and the Batumi skyline.
