Leghvtakhevi Waterfall: An Urban Oasis

Leghvtakhevi Waterfall, a stunning 22-meter cascade, is a hidden gem located in the heart of Old Tbilisi, within the historic Abanotubani district. The name Leghvtakhevi comes from the Georgian word for fig, 'leghvi,' as the area was once abundant with fig trees. Historically, the Leghvtakhevi Gorge separated the ancient district of Kala from the rest of the city and was known by various names, including Tsavkisiskhevi, Sololakiskhevi, and Dabakhana. The waterfall is fed by the Tsavkisistskali River, which flows from the Mtatsminda Range through the Botanical Garden before cascading down into Leghvtakhevi and eventually merging with the Mtkvari River. The area was renovated in 2012, making it more accessible and appealing to visitors. Today, a walk to the waterfall takes you through towering cliffs and offers panoramic views of Tbilisi's old houses perched above. Leghvtakhevi Waterfall provides a peaceful retreat from the urban environment.
