Discover more about Mushthaid Garden

Mushthaid Garden, one of Tbilisi's oldest gardens, provides a green oasis in the city. Founded between the 1830s and 1840s by Mir-Fatah-Agha, a Persian religious leader who sought refuge in Tbilisi, the garden's origins are rooted in a love story. Legend says he created the garden to honor his Georgian wife. In 1853, the garden transitioned into public hands and became a recreational hub. Over the years, it has hosted various significant events, including the launch of the first children's railway in the world in 1935 and the first hot-air balloon flight in Transcaucasia. The garden also holds cultural importance as a meeting place for the painter Niko Pirosmani and the French singer Margarita. Today, Mushthaid Garden spans approximately 11 hectares and features a diverse collection of plant species, including a notable Zelkova grove with relict trees. Visitors can explore the State Silk Museum, established in 1887, which showcases a rich collection of silkworms. The garden also offers modern attractions such as an amphitheater, playgrounds, a summer theatre, and various cafes, making it a popular destination for families and individuals seeking relaxation and entertainment.
