Car
If you are driving to Kekhvi Fortress from the village of Shatili, take the main road towards Barisakho. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will reach a fork in the road; take the left path leading towards Kekhvi. Follow this road for about 8 kilometers. You will begin to see signs for Kekhvi Fortress. The last part of the drive may require navigating some unpaved roads, so be cautious and ensure your vehicle is suitable for off-road conditions. Parking is available near the fortress.
Public Transportation
From the village of Shatili, you can catch a marshrutka (minibus) heading towards Barisakho. Make sure to ask the driver if they will stop near Kekhvi, as some do not. Once you arrive in Barisakho, you will need to either walk the remaining distance (around 8 kilometers) to Kekhvi Fortress or arrange for a local taxi. If opting for a taxi, negotiate the fare beforehand, as prices can vary. Expect to pay around 10-15 GEL for the short ride.
Hiking
For the more adventurous, you can hike from Shatili to Kekhvi Fortress. The hike is approximately 18 kilometers and takes around 4-5 hours. Follow the path from Shatili towards Barisakho and then switch to the trail leading to Kekhvi. The route offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and bring plenty of water and snacks. This option is free of charge, but ensure you're well-prepared for the physical activity.
