Getting There

  • Driving

    Ananuri Fortress is located directly off the Georgian Military Highway (E117), approximately 70 km north of Tbilisi. From Tbilisi, follow the E117 north. The fortress will be clearly visible on the right-hand side of the road, overlooking the Zhinvali Reservoir. There is a parking area available near the fortress. Parking is not free. Be cautious of winding roads, especially in wet conditions.

  • Public Transport

    From Tbilisi, take a marshrutka (minibus) heading towards Kazbegi or Gudauri from Didube Bus Station. Inform the driver that you wish to stop at Ananuri Fortress. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours. The marshrutka will drop you off near the fortress entrance. The cost is around 3 GEL.
