Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards Mtskheta. From Tbilisi, take the E117 road for about 20 km. Once you reach Mtskheta, follow signs towards Jvari Monastery. The last stretch involves a steep uphill drive, and you will find a parking area near the entrance of the monastery. Make sure to have some coins as parking may incur a small fee.
Public Transportation
To reach Jvari Monastery via public transportation, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Tbilisi to Mtskheta. Marshrutkas leave regularly from the Didube bus station in Tbilisi. Once you arrive in Mtskheta, you can either walk (approximately 2.5 km uphill) or take a taxi to the monastery. Taxis are usually available in Mtskheta and should cost around 5-10 GEL. Make sure to confirm the fare beforehand.
Walking (from Mtskheta)
If you choose to walk from Mtskheta, head towards the main square and follow the signs to Jvari Monastery. The route is approximately 2.5 km uphill and will take around 30-40 minutes. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, but be prepared for a steep incline. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
