Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Take the E117 highway towards Gori, then switch to the E60 towards the town of Mtskheta. Once you reach Mtskheta, continue on the E117 heading towards Akhaltsikhe. After approximately 90 kilometers, take the exit towards Rkoni. Follow local signs to Rkon Castle, which is located about 10 kilometers from the main road. There is limited parking available near the castle.
Public Transportation
To reach Rkon Castle by public transport, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Tbilisi to Akhaltsikhe. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Akhaltsikhe, you can catch a local marshrutka or taxi to Rkoni village. The ride will take about 30-40 minutes. Be sure to confirm with the driver that they are going to Rkoni, as some may not go directly there. The cost for the marshrutka from Tbilisi to Akhaltsikhe is around 10-15 GEL, while the local ride to Rkoni may cost around 5-10 GEL.
Walking
After arriving in Rkoni village via car or public transport, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers to reach the castle. The path is mostly uphill and may be rocky, so wear appropriate footwear. Follow the signs to Rkon Castle, which is visible from the village. The walk should take around 20-30 minutes.
