Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main village in Tusheti. Head towards the main road leading out of Tusheti, which is generally marked with signs towards the south. Drive approximately 75 kilometers along this road, taking in the beautiful mountainous scenery. You will eventually reach the junction leading to the Khertvisi Fortress. Follow the signs directing you to Khertvisi. The fortress is located near the village of Khertvisi, just off the main road, and there are parking spaces available close by.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, you can take a marshrutka (minibus) from the main bus station in Tusheti. Look for marshrutkas heading towards Akhaltsikhe or Vardzia, as they usually pass near Khertvisi Fortress. The fare is generally around 10-15 GEL, depending on your exact destination. Inform the driver of your stop at Khertvisi, and they will drop you off at the nearest point to the fortress. From there, it's a short walk to the entrance of Khertvisi Fortress.
Walking
If you arrive at Khertvisi by public transport or car and choose to explore the area further, remember that the terrain can be rugged. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as walking from the drop-off point to the fortress involves a bit of uphill walking. The fortress is only about 1 kilometer from the nearest drop-off point, and the views along the way are stunning, making the walk enjoyable.
