Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the village of Omalo, which is the main hub in Tusheti. Take the road leading south from Omalo towards the village of Dartlo. After approximately 15 km, you will reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork, which leads towards the village of Chagma. Continue on this road for about 10 km until you see signs for Motsameta Monastery. The monastery is located a short drive off the main road, and you will need to navigate a narrow dirt path for the final stretch. Make sure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain. There is no parking directly at the monastery, but you can find a spot nearby to leave your car.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you can take a marshrutka (shared minibus) from Omalo to Dartlo. The marshrutkas typically leave in the morning and take about 30 minutes to reach Dartlo. From Dartlo, you will need to hike to Motsameta Monastery, which is about a 1-hour walk. Follow the marked trails that lead south towards the monastery. Bring comfortable hiking shoes and water, as the trail can be steep in places.
Hiking
For the adventurous travelers, you can hike directly from Omalo to Motsameta Monastery. This trek will take around 3-4 hours and is approximately 10 km long. Start by heading south out of Omalo, following the trail signs towards Dartlo, but instead of taking the road, you will use the hiking paths that lead directly to the monastery. Be prepared for some elevation changes and ensure you have a map or a guide, as the trails can sometimes be less visible.
