Getting There

  • Car

    From the main road in Tusheti, head towards the village of Omalo. The drive will take you through beautiful mountain landscapes. Once you reach Omalo, continue on the dirt road leading towards the village of Dartlo. After passing Dartlo, follow the signs or local directions towards Mutso. The road can be rough, so a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Finally, park your car at the base of the castle and hike the last part, which is about a 20-minute walk uphill to the castle.

  • Public Transportation

    Catch a minibus (marshrutka) from Tbilisi to Omalo, which operates daily during the summer season. The journey takes around 8-10 hours, and it’s advisable to book in advance. Once in Omalo, you can hire a local guide or take a taxi to get to Dartlo. From Dartlo, the only option to reach Mutso is by hiking. It’s about a 1-hour hike from Dartlo to Mutso, where you will enjoy stunning views and the historical castle.

  • Hiking

    If you're already in Dartlo, you can hike directly to Mutso. The trail is well-marked and takes approximately 1 hour. The path may include steep sections, so wear sturdy shoes and carry water.
