Aachener Tierpark Euregiozoo, formerly known as Aachener Tierpark, is an 8.9-hectare zoo located between the Forst and Beverau districts in Aachen. The zoo resides in the “Drimborner Wäldchen” (Drimborn Grove), named after the family of mayors Hermann von Dremborn and Johann von Drimborn. The Beverbach stream flows through the park, forming a 2-acre lake in the northwestern section. Founded in 1966, the Euregiozoo has grown into a popular recreational facility showcasing a diverse collection of animals. Visitors can observe monkeys, Asian camels, zebras, wildebeest, lynxes, servals, cheetahs, antelopes, African ostriches, and various exotic birds. The zoo also features a large lake and smaller ponds inhabited by around 70 species of waterfowl. A Roman sarcophagus, discovered in 1793, is displayed within the park. The zoo emphasizes creating interactions between humans and animals, with three petting meadows and a children's farm. Visitors can find several playgrounds throughout the park. The Aachener Tierpark Euregiozoo is recognized for its commitment to animal welfare and species conservation. In 2004, Greenpeace listed it among the top zoos in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. In 2007, the zoo was admitted to the Association of Zoological Gardens, which recognizes scientifically managed zoos with strict species protection policies and breeding programs.
