Getting there

Walking

From the Regen train station, walk towards the town center and follow signs for the Kurpark. Continue along the Skulpturenweg, crossing the Regen River via the Rodenstocksteg. Follow the Flusswanderweg (River Hiking Trail) to the Regener See. Cross the Heubrücke (Hay Bridge) and the B11 road. Follow Wanderweg Nr. 5 to Weißenstein, where the Gläserner Wald is located near the castle. The walk takes approximately 2 hours.

Public Transport

From Regen, take bus line 6192 towards Zwiesel to the Weißenstein, Regen stop. The Gläserner Wald is a short walk from the bus stop. Check the Bayerischer Wald website for current schedules and fare information. A single journey ticket costs approximately €3-€5.

Driving

From the A3, take the Deggendorf exit towards Bodenmais. Continue to Patersdorf and turn right towards Regen. Follow the signs to Weißenstein. Parking is available near the Gläserner Wald. Parking fees are approximately €5 per day.

The Gläserner Wald, or Glass Forest, is a captivating art installation located in Regen, within the Bavarian Forest. This enchanting site features over 30 glass trees crafted from vibrantly colored flat glass. Conceived by the renowned glass artist Rudolf Schmid, the forest showcases a variety of tree species, including beeches, pines, firs, spruces and aspens, all rendered in shimmering glass.Since its creation in 2000, the Gläserner Wald has drawn thousands of visitors annually to wander through its 2,000 square meters. The tallest of these glass trees reaches a height of 8 meters. The forest is particularly stunning at night, when dozens of ground-level floodlights illuminate the glass, creating a magical atmosphere. In 2002, the town of Regen received the prestigious Glasstraßenpreis (Glass Road Prize) for the creation of the Gläserner Wald.The Gläserner Wald is located next to Weißenstein Castle, adding to the allure of the location. Nearby, visitors can also explore the Museum im Fressenden Haus, once home to the Baltic poet Siegfried von Vegesack. The Gläserner Wald is open year-round and offers a memorable experience for art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
