Getting There

  • Driving

    To reach Wackelstein by car, navigate to Thurmansbang (94169). From there, follow signs towards Wackelstein. A common parking area is located near Entschenreuth. From Zenting or Thurmansbang, turn left at the sharp right curve at the beginning of Entschenreuth into the street "Zum Wackelstein". This becomes a dirt road between field groves. Shortly thereafter, the parking lot is on the left. Parking is typically around €2-€5 for the day.

  • Public Transport

    Take a train to Grafenau, the nearest station. From Grafenau, take bus 604 to Thurmansbang. Check the bus schedule in advance. From the bus stop in Thurmansbang, it's about a 30-minute walk to the hiking trail leading to Wackelstein. The bus fare is around €2-€3.

  • Walking

    From Entschenreuth, follow the Wackelstein Steig (trail number 84). The trail leads slightly downhill on a dirt road into a depression, crosses an intersection and leads slightly uphill through a small forest. After a few minutes you reach a plain with meadows and fields and turn left onto the path to the forest. The hike to the Wackelstein takes about 1.5 hours.
