Discover more about Stadtpark Rotehorn

Stadtpark Rotehorn, also known as Rotehornpark, is a sprawling 200-hectare parkland set on the Werder Island, nestled in the heart of Magdeburg. This green oasis, the largest in the city, is bordered by the Old Elbe to the east and the Stromelbe to the west. The park's design began in 1871, with initial promenades and plantings laid out by Magdeburg's garden director, Paul Niemeyer. Later expansions, led by Gottlieb Schoch, emphasized the area's natural floodplain character, resulting in the park's current size. In 1908, the Taube Elbe river course was transformed into the Adolf-Mittag-See, complete with the Marieninsel and its temple. Throughout the 20th century, the park evolved, hosting exhibitions and cultural events. The Stadthalle, built in Bauhaus style for the 1927 German Theater Exhibition, remains an architectural highlight, along with the Albinmüller-Turm. Although some historical structures were lost in World War II, the park has seen ongoing restoration and modernization, including the reconstruction of the Sternbrücke in 2005. Today, Stadtpark Rotehorn offers a wide array of activities. Visitors can enjoy walking and cycling paths, relax on lawns, or rent boats on the Adolf-Mittag-See. The park also features a nature theater, a skate park, and various sports facilities.
