Staßfurt Zoo: A Family-Friendly Wildlife Haven

Staßfurt Zoo, or Tiergarten Staßfurt, is a charming zoological garden located in the heart of Staßfurt, Germany. Managed by Lebenshilfe Bördeland gGmbH since 2003, the zoo operates as a recognized workshop for people with disabilities, adding a unique social dimension to its mission. Spanning 5.5 hectares, the zoo is home to approximately 350 animals representing 72 different species. Visitors can observe a diverse collection of creatures, including various monkey species, llamas, meerkats, and emus. A heated building houses exotic animals like monkeys and snakes, ensuring year-round viewing opportunities. The zoo also features a petting zoo, allowing children to interact closely with farm animals like goats and mini-pigs. The Staßfurt Zoo is designed to be family-friendly, with a large playground, a climbing park, and a restaurant with a kiosk. The zoo also hosts various events throughout the year, including concerts and festivals. The grounds are adorned with labeled trees, shrubs, and grasses, adding an educational element to the experience. Notably, the zoo displays an old church bell, not from the demolished Sankt-Johannis-Kirche, but a gift from Groß Mühlingen dating back to around 1375.
