Discover more about Zoo Aschersleben

Zoo Aschersleben, established in 1973 as a native animal park, is situated in the 'Alte Burg' recreational area. The zoo spans approximately 10 hectares of hilly, partially wooded terrain, incorporating the remains of Aschersleben Castle. The zoo is home to about 500 animals representing around 120 species. Highlights include the Siberian tiger enclosure, expanded in 2004 to approximately 2000 square meters. Visitors can also see white lions, jaguars, various monkey species, hyenas, and ocelots. The Small Tropical House features snakes, crocodiles, mega bats, and freshwater fish. A walk-in monkey house allows for close encounters with some of the primates. The zoo also participates in the European Endangered Species Programme for Diana monkeys, salt cats, and Amur leopards. Beyond the animals, the zoo offers a planetarium, a zoo school, playgrounds, and the Jungle Café. The planetarium has been a part of the zoo since 1976, and a scale model of the solar system leads to it. The zoo school provides biology lessons. Visitors can also explore the remains of the medieval castle.
