    Discover more about Schlossgarten

The Schlossgarten (Palace Garden) in Karlsruhe is a large landscape park located north of the Karlsruhe Palace in the city center. It serves as an extension of the palace grounds and a recreational area for locals and tourists alike. Originally laid out as a baroque garden in front of the palace in 1715 by Margrave Karl Wilhelm, the garden was redesigned behind the palace in the French Baroque style between 1731 and 1746 by court gardener Christian Thran. Later, Karl Friedrich, grandson and successor of Karl Wilhelm, had parts of the garden redesigned by Johann Bernhard Saul and Philipp Ludwig Müller. In 1967, on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show, the Schlossgarten was transformed into an English landscape park. The Schlossgarten features sculptures from the Baroque period to modern times, monuments, fountains from various eras, and the Stadtgartensee lake. A striking beam of 1645 blue ceramic tiles cuts through the meadow, marking a former axis leading to the Schlosspark-Mauer and the State Majolica Manufactory. The park also includes the Seerosen- and Fasanengärten (water lily and pheasant gardens). The Schlossgarten is a popular venue for events. Access to the Schlossgarten is generally free.
