From Essen city center, head to the Essen Steele Bus Station, which is approximately a 10-minute walk from the main shopping area. Take bus line 145 towards Duisburg. The bus will take you directly to Duisburg, and the journey takes about 20 minutes. Get off at the 'Duisburg Rathaus' bus stop. From there, it's a short 5-minute walk to Alter Markt. Just head straight on 'Bismarckstraße' and follow it until you reach the square.
Train
Make your way to Essen Hauptbahnhof (the main train station), which is well-signposted. From there, catch a regional train to Duisburg. Trains run frequently, and the journey takes about 15 minutes. Once you arrive at Duisburg Hauptbahnhof, exit the station and walk towards 'Königstraße'. Follow 'Königstraße' north until you reach the 'Alter Markt', which is about a 15-minute walk.

From the center of Essen, walk to the 'Kettwiger Straße' tram stop. Take tram line 102 towards Duisburg. The tram ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at 'Duisburg Königstraße' tram stop, then walk straight down 'Königstraße' for about 10 minutes until you reach 'Alter Markt'.
Walking
If you are nearby, you can reach Alter Markt by walking. Start at the 'Duisburg Hauptbahnhof' and head east on 'Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße'. Continue to 'Königstraße', and follow it north for about 15 minutes until you reach the square at 'Alter Markt'. This is a pleasant walk through the city center.
