Public Transport - Train
If you're starting from Essen Hauptbahnhof (the main train station), take the S-Bahn line S1 towards Dortmund. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Get off at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof. From there, follow the signs for the U-Bahn (subway) and take U-Bahn line U45 towards the 'Dortmund Hörde' direction. Get off after one stop at 'Dortmund U', which is the stop closest to the Dortmund U-Tower. Once you exit the station, head towards Leonie-Reygers-Terrasse, and you will find the Dortmund U-Tower shortly ahead.
Public Transport - Bus
From Essen, you can also take a bus from Essen Steele to Dortmund. Head to the bus stop 'Essen Steele' and take bus line 184 towards 'Dortmund Damm'. This ride lasts about 35 minutes. Get off at the 'Dortmund Damm' stop, then walk towards the Dortmund U-Tower, which is approximately a 15-minute walk straight ahead. Follow signs towards the city center until you reach Leonie-Reygers-Terrasse.
Walking
If you are already in Dortmund, you can walk to the Dortmund U-Tower from the city center. Start at the Reinoldikirche (St. Reinold's Church), which is a central landmark. From there, head northwest on Kampstraße towards the 'Leonie-Reygers-Terrasse'. Continue straight for about 10 minutes, and you will reach the Dortmund U-Tower. The route is quite straightforward, just follow the signs and enjoy the city along the way.
