From the Dorfgemeinschaftshaus Lonau (community center) in the village center, the Auerhuhngehege is approximately a 15-minute walk. Follow the signs through the Lonauer Wiesen (meadows). The path is mostly flat, but the final approach to the enclosure involves a gentle uphill walk on a forest path. The Auerhuhngehege is accessible via a 1.7 kilometer forest path, which has an average incline of almost 6%.

Take a train to Herzberg am Harz station. From there, take bus line 452 or 400 towards Lonau, Dorfgemeinschaftshaus. From the bus stop, follow the walking directions to the Auerhuhngehege (approximately 15 minutes). A single bus fare from Herzberg to Lonau is approximately €3-5.
