Walking
From the Alte Brücke (Old Bridge) in Heidelberg's Old Town, cross the bridge heading north. At the end of the bridge, turn left onto the Schlangenweg (Snake Path), a steep, winding path that leads directly up to the Philosophenweg. The climb takes approximately 15-20 minutes and offers scenic views along the way. Alternatively, from the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke, follow the signs towards the Philosophenweg. No costs are associated with accessing the Philosophenweg.
Public Transport
From Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take bus line 33 towards 'Heidelberg, Philosophenweg'. This bus will take you directly to the bus stop 'Philosophenweg', which is a short walk from the entrance to the trail. A single bus ticket costs approximately €2-€3. From Bismarckplatz, take bus 31 towards 'Neuenheim' and get off at the bus stop 'Brückenstraße'. From there, walk towards the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke and follow the signs to Philosophenweg.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) to the Philosophenweg will cost approximately €10-€15, depending on traffic. Ask the driver to take you to the start of the Philosophenweg on Bergstraße in the Neuenheim district. From there, you can begin your walk along the path. Note that parking is limited near the Philosophenweg, so this option is preferable to driving your own car.
