Getting There
-
Walking
From Cochem's town center (e.g., Marktplatz), the Reichsburg Castle is a steep uphill walk of approximately 15-30 minutes. Follow the signs towards the castle, initially along Schlossstrasse. The path is paved but can be challenging due to the incline. Alternatively, a path leads past the St. Rochus plague chapel up to the castle, adding about 10 minutes to the walk. Note that the final 150 meters are particularly narrow. Consider this option for the exercise and views, but be prepared for the climb.
-
Public Transport
From Endertplatz, the central bus station in Cochem, take the Reichsburg Shuttle bus (Line 701) directly to the castle. The shuttle operates between May and the end of October. The bus drops you off at the 'Reichsburg-Alte Linde' stop, approximately 150 meters from the castle entrance, still requiring a short, steep walk. A single ride on the Reichsburg Shuttle costs approximately €2-3. This is the most convenient option for those with mobility issues or who prefer to avoid the uphill walk from the town center. Note that the guest ticket does not include the busline in Cochem with connection to castle Cochem (Reichsburg Shuttle).
-
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis are available in Cochem and can take you directly to the castle. A taxi ride from the town center (e.g., near the train station or Endertplatz) to the Reichsburg Castle costs approximately €10-15, depending on traffic and the exact starting point. This is a convenient option for those with mobility issues or who prefer a direct and private transfer. However, note that taxis may have limited availability, especially during peak season, so it's advisable to book in advance (Tel. + 49 2671 8080).

Parking
Direct access to the castle by car or motorbike is not possible. Parking is extremely limited within the medieval historical town centre of Cochem. The car should be parked in the city and, depending on the parking space you are using (for example, the parking garage in the Endertstraße or the city parking in the Pinnerstraße), you should need about 15-30 minutes to make the walk.
