The NEL Neontechnik Elektroanlagen Leipzig GmbH, the successor to the original company that built the sign, carried out the restoration work. In December 1999, the Löffelfamilie was relit, once again illuminating Karl-Liebknecht-Straße with its cheerful glow. Today, the Löffelfamilie continues to shine as a symbol of Leipzig's resilience and community spirit. The sign is maintained by the 'Löffelfamilie e.V.,' a non-profit organization that relies on donations and sponsorships to cover operating costs. Visitors can even contribute to the sign's upkeep by sending a text message to a designated number, which will illuminate the sign for a few minutes.
