Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Lübeck's main train station, exit the station and head towards the city center. Walk straight down Willy-Brandt-Allee for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Mühlenbrücke. Continue straight across the bridge; you will see the historic Old Town in front of you. As you approach the Old Town, you will see the iconic Holstentor gate on your right. Walk towards it, and you will arrive at Holstentor Square, where the gate is located.

  • Public Transport

    If you are near the city center, take bus line 2 or 4 from any nearby bus stop. Get off at the 'Holstentor' stop, which is directly adjacent to Holstentor Square. From the bus stop, you can see the Holstentor gate immediately. Just walk a few steps towards it, and you will reach the square.

  • Walking from St. Mary’s Church

    If you are visiting St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche), exit the church and head south towards the intersection with Breite Straße. Turn left onto Breite Straße and continue walking until you reach the end of the street. At the end, turn right onto Mühlenstraße, and you will see the Holstentor gate ahead. Continue walking straight, and you’ll arrive at Holstentor Square.

    If you are at the Historic Market Square (Markt), head west towards the street called Sandstraße. Walk along Sandstraße until you reach the intersection with Mühlenstraße. Turn left onto Mühlenstraße, and as you walk down this street, you will see the Holstentor gate coming into view. Continue walking straight, and you will find yourself at Holstentor Square.
