Rötteln Castle, or Burg Rötteln, rises dramatically above the town of Lörrach, a sentinel overlooking the Wiese valley and a tangible link to the region's rich past. The castle's story begins in the 11th century, with the first documented mention of a Lord of Rötteln in 1102. The castle itself is first mentioned in 1259. Today, Rötteln Castle is the third-largest castle ruin in Baden-Württemberg, a testament to its former might.
