Walking
From the center of Wa, head towards the Wa Bus Terminal. Once at the terminal, locate the nearest trotro (shared minibus) heading to Kumasi or Accra, as these typically travel south towards Elmina. Purchase a ticket and board the trotro. The journey to Elmina will take approximately 12 hours. Upon arrival at the Elmina bus station, exit the trotro and ask locals for directions to Elmina Castle, which is a short 10-minute walk from the station.
Public Transport
Start at the Wa city center and walk to the Wa Bus Terminal. There, find a trotro heading to Takoradi or Cape Coast. This journey can take around 12 hours. Upon arrival at the Takoradi or Cape Coast terminal, take another trotro or taxi to Elmina. Elmina Castle is well-signposted; ask the driver to drop you off near the castle. From the drop-off point, it's a short walk to the castle entrance.
Bicycle
If you’re feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle in Wa and take the main road leading south towards Kumasi. This will be a long journey of approximately 12 hours, so plan for breaks along the way. Once you reach Elmina, follow the signs to Elmina Castle from the main road. It's advisable to stay overnight in Elmina before visiting the castle.
