Over the centuries, it has endured significant damage, notably during the Great Siege of Gibraltar in the late 18th century and from an ammunition ship explosion in 1951. Each time, it was meticulously restored, reflecting the community's resilience.From 1844 to 1990, King's Chapel served as the principal church for the British Army in Gibraltar. Today, it is used by all three branches of the British Armed Forces and also hosts Roman Catholic services, symbolizing unity and interfaith harmony.
