Getting There

Public Transport

From Gibraltar's city center, take the number 2 bus towards Europa Point. The bus journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes, offering a scenic route. Alight at the Europa Point bus stop, from where the lighthouse is a short, signposted walk. A single bus fare costs around £2.20.
Walking

If you're near the Gibraltar Nature Reserve, exit the reserve and head southwest towards the A370. Walk along the A370 for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach Europa Road. Turn onto Europa Road, and continue walking until you arrive at the lighthouse. The walk may take about 30-40 minutes.
Taxi

Taxis are readily available throughout Gibraltar. A taxi ride from the city center to Europa Point Lighthouse typically costs between £9 and £14, depending on the starting point and traffic. The base fare is £3.60, with an additional £2.00 per kilometer.
Parking

If driving, follow Europa Road to Europa Point. There is a large car park available. Parking is free during the daytime. However, be aware of parking restrictions, as there is no overnight parking allowed between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM in the southern car park.

Europa Point Lighthouse, a beacon of maritime history, is situated at the strategic meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea on the southeastern tip of Gibraltar. Constructed in 1841 and standing 20 meters (66 ft) tall, the lighthouse has been a crucial aid to navigation through the Strait of Gibraltar. Its classic British design, featuring a cylindrical white tower with a broad red horizontal band, makes it a striking landmark.The lighthouse's history is rich with upgrades and technological advancements. Originally lit with a single-wick oil lamp, it progressed through various lighting systems, including four-wick burners, Douglass burners, and incandescent mantle burners, before being fully automated in 1994 and converted to LED operation in 2016. These advancements ensured the lighthouse remained a reliable guide for ships navigating the busy strait.Managed by Trinity House, the lighthouse is the only one of its kind outside of the British Isles under their operation. Visitors to Europa Point can appreciate not only the lighthouse itself but also the panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar, the African coast, and other nearby attractions such as the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque and the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe. The area has been revitalized with landscaped promenades and viewing platforms, making it a welcoming destination for tourists and locals alike.
