Discover more about Europa Point Lighthouse

Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Trinity Lighthouse, is an iconic structure situated at the southernmost point of Gibraltar. Built in 1841, it has served as a crucial navigational aid for ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. The lighthouse is operated by Trinity House, making it the only one under their management located outside of the British Isles. The lighthouse's history is marked by several upgrades to enhance its visibility and functionality. Originally, it featured a single-wick oil lamp, but it was later improved with multi-wick burners, a new lens, and eventually an electrically operated lighting system. In 1994, the lighthouse was fully automated, and in 2016, it was converted to LED operation. Today, its beam can be seen from over 20 miles away. Visitors to Europa Point can explore the lighthouse grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area. On a clear day, it's possible to see the northern shores of Africa. Other attractions at Europa Point include the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, and the Sikorski Memorial. The area also offers a children's play area and a cafeteria, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
