Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Gibraltar's city center, take bus number 2 towards Europa Point. The bus journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Alight at the Europa Point bus stop, from where it's a short, signposted walk to the lighthouse. A single bus fare costs around £2.

  • Walking

    If you're near the Gibraltar Nature Reserve, follow the marked walking trails towards the southern tip of Gibraltar. The walk to Europa Point Lighthouse takes approximately 1 hour and offers scenic views. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Alternatively, from the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal, it is approximately a 1 hour and 13 minute walk to the lighthouse.

  • Car

    From Gibraltar's city center, head south towards Europa Point, following signs for Europa Point or Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque. Continue past the mosque towards the lighthouse. Parking is available near the lighthouse. Be aware of parking restrictions, especially regarding overnight parking. Parking is free during the day.

Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Trinity Lighthouse, is perched at Gibraltar's southernmost point, marking the meeting of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Built in 1841 by Trinity House, it has been a crucial aid to navigation for ships traversing the Strait of Gibraltar. The lighthouse stands 20 meters tall, its beam visible for over 32 kilometers.Originally lit with a single-wick oil lamp, the lighthouse underwent several upgrades throughout its history, including the introduction of a four-wick burner in 1864 and an eight-wick burner in 1894. In 1994, it was fully automated, and in 2016, it was converted to LED operation. Today, the lighthouse's aids to navigation are monitored remotely from Essex, England.Europa Point offers visitors panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar, the northern coast of Africa, and the Bay of Gibraltar. In addition to the lighthouse, the area features other attractions, including the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, and Harding's Battery. The Sikorski Memorial, commemorating a 1943 plane crash that killed Polish Prime Minister Władysław Sikorski, is also located nearby.Visitors can explore the lighthouse grounds, soak in the stunning views, and learn about the area's rich maritime history. Europa Point is easily accessible by bus or car, with parking available.
