Europa Point Lighthouse: Gibraltar's Guiding Light

Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Trinity Lighthouse, is perched at Gibraltar's southernmost point, marking the meeting of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Built in 1841 by Trinity House, it has been a crucial aid to navigation for ships traversing the Strait of Gibraltar. The lighthouse stands 20 meters tall, its beam visible for over 32 kilometers.Originally lit with a single-wick oil lamp, the lighthouse underwent several upgrades throughout its history, including the introduction of a four-wick burner in 1864 and an eight-wick burner in 1894. In 1994, it was fully automated, and in 2016, it was converted to LED operation. Today, the lighthouse's aids to navigation are monitored remotely from Essex, England.Europa Point offers visitors panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar, the northern coast of Africa, and the Bay of Gibraltar. In addition to the lighthouse, the area features other attractions, including the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, and Harding's Battery.
