Parson's Lodge Battery, initially known as the 9th Rosia Battery, is a strategically significant coastal battery and fort located in Gibraltar. Its history dates back to the early 18th century when the British installed cannons to defend against naval attacks. The name Parson's Lodge was first recorded in 1761. In 1842, the battery was upgraded following recommendations by Major-General John Thomas Jones. By 1873, it was adapted to house three 10-inch Rifled Muzzle Loader (RML) guns. The battery played a crucial role in Gibraltar's defenses during both World Wars, equipped with anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns, as well as searchlights. Today, Parson's Lodge Battery has been restored by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust and serves as a museum and educational facility. Visitors can explore the well-preserved structures, gun emplacements, and exhibits that showcase Gibraltar's military history. The site also offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Rock of Gibraltar.
