Discover more about Corfu Museum of Asian Art

The Corfu Museum of Asian Art, established in 1928, is a unique cultural institution in Greece, dedicated exclusively to Asian art. It is housed within the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, a neoclassical building constructed during British rule in the early 19th century. The palace itself is a historical landmark, having served as the residence of British High Commissioners and later as a summer residence for the Greek Royal Family. The museum's collection originated with the donation of Gregorios Manos' Sino-Japanese collection to the Greek state. Manos, a Greek diplomat, amassed a significant collection of Asian art during his travels. Over time, the museum's holdings have expanded through further donations, now encompassing approximately 15,000 works of Asian art. These include Chinese porcelain, Japanese woodblock prints, Korean ceramics, and Indian textiles. The museum showcases a diverse range of artistic styles and techniques from across Asia. Visitors can admire Chinese ceramics from various dynasties, intricate Japanese art, and the elegant beauty of Korean ceramics. The museum also features sculptures from Cambodia, painted Korean floor screens, and artifacts from Pakistan and Afghanistan. The oldest artifact dates back to 1000 BC. The museum also organizes educational programs, workshops, and lectures.
