    From Heraklion, take the KTEL bus from the central bus station to Matala. The buses run frequently throughout the day, approximately every hour. The journey takes around 1.5 hours. Once you arrive at the Matala bus station, you can walk to the beach, which is approximately a 10-minute walk. Follow the signs towards the beach, passing by local shops and cafes.

    If you are in Chania, first take a KTEL bus to Rethymno. Once in Rethymno, transfer to another KTEL bus to Matala. The total travel time will be around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on transfer times. Upon reaching Matala bus station, walk towards the beach (about 10 minutes).

    From Agios Nikolaos, board a KTEL bus heading to Heraklion. Once in Heraklion, switch to a bus going to Matala.
