Getting There

• Bus

  If you're starting from Heraklion, go to the Central Bus Station (KTEL) at 8 Ikarou Street. Look for a bus heading towards Rethymno. The bus ride takes approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive in Rethymno, transfer to a bus heading to Zoniana. These buses leave from the Rethymno Bus Station. The journey to Zoniana takes about 40 minutes. Get off at the stop for Zoniana village. From the bus stop, walk up the main road towards the village center, and follow the signs to Sfendoni Cave, which is about a 15-minute walk uphill from the village.

• Taxi

  From major towns such as Heraklion or Rethymno, you can take a taxi directly to Sfendoni Cave in Zoniana. In Heraklion, you can find taxis at the airport or central taxi ranks. Make sure to agree on a price before starting your journey, as taxis do not use meters for long distances. The drive from Heraklion will take about 1 hour, while from Rethymno, it will be approximately 40 minutes. Just give the driver the address: Σπήλαιο Σφεντόνη, Zoniana 740 51.

• Walking

  If you're already in Zoniana, once you arrive at the village center, look for signs pointing to the Sfendoni Cave. It is a short hike from the center, about 1.5 km. Start from the main square of the village, walking towards the road that leads out of the village. You will see signs directing you to the cave. The path is mostly uphill, so be prepared for a bit of a climb. It should take around 15-20 minutes to reach the cave entrance.
