    Antimachia Castle, also known as the Castle of the Knights, is a captivating medieval fortress located near Antimachia village on the island of Kos. Built by the Knights Hospitaller of St. John between 1322 and 1346, the castle occupies a strategic position on a plateau, offering panoramic views of the Aegean Sea, the passage between Nisyros and Kos, and the fertile Kardamena plain.Originally constructed in the 14th century, the castle was significantly reinforced in 1494 after an earthquake. The design features a triangular layout, with each side acting as an independent fortification line adapted to the terrain. Visitors can still see the massive crescent-shaped bastion at the entrance, complete with the Knights' emblem engraved in marble. The walls themselves are well-preserved, bearing witness to the castle's turbulent history of sieges and invasions.Inside the castle, explore the ruins of the old settlement of Antimachia, abandoned in 1840, and discover several cisterns.
