The Pavlos Vrellis Museum of Greek History, also known as the Pavlos Vrellis Museum of Wax Effigies, is a privately-owned museum located in Bizani, about 14 km south of Ioannina, in the region of Epirus. It was founded by the Greek sculptor Pavlos Vrellis in February 1983 and opened to the public in 1995. Vrellis, who dedicated 13 years to the project, aimed to create a space where visitors could experience Greek history through life-size wax figures set in realistic environments. The museum building itself is designed in the style of an 18th-century urban fortress, reflecting the architecture of inland Epirus. The interior spans 2,500 cubic meters and houses around 150 wax figures across 36 historical themes. The exhibits cover 24 centuries of Greek history, starting from 500 BC, with a focus on the modern history of Epirus. The museum is divided into three main sections: the pre-Revolutionary period, the Revolution of 1821, and the Second World War. Visitors can explore scenes from significant events, such as the founding of the Filiki Eteria, the explosion at Kougi, and the Battle of Crete. The museum also features wax figures of prominent historical figures, including Theodoros Kolokotronis, Konstantinos Kanaris, Rigas Feraios, and Katsantonis. Vrellis's work provides a vivid and engaging way to learn about Greek history, making it a memorable experience for visitors of all ages. Photography and videography are not allowed inside the museum. The museum operates daily from 10:00 to 16:00.
