    From Palea Kavala, the eastern entrance to the trail is located at the village entrance, to the right of the Zafiris taverna. A sloping dirt road will lead you to the trail entrance. Follow the well-marked path towards Kavala, keeping an eye out for the stream.

    To reach Palea Kavala from Kavala, take the local bus towards Zygos. Get off at Palea Kavala. From the bus stop, walk towards the village entrance to find the trail. Bus fare is approximately €2-€3.

    A taxi from Kavala city center to Palea Kavala will cost approximately €20-€25. The journey takes around 20-30 minutes. From Palea Kavala's entrance, the trail is a short walk into the village.

The Waterway Trail is a captivating hiking experience near Kavala, in Eastern Macedonia, Greece. This 10.6 km trail blends natural beauty with historical significance, following the course of a medieval aqueduct that once supplied water to the city. The trail is divided into two main sections. The first section begins near the church of Agios Konstantinos in Kavala, leading to the springs known as "Mother of Water" (Mana tou Nerou). This area features the remains of ancient fountains and purification cisterns. The path runs atop the ancient water pipe that fed the aqueduct, known today as the 'Kamares'. The second, more challenging section, continues towards Palea Kavala, passing through fields and old farmhouses. The trail is not always well-marked in this section. In Palea Kavala, you can find abandoned watermills and a traditional trough. A highlight is the magnificent waterfall with natural pools. The surrounding landscape is particularly enchanting in spring and summer. The trail offers insights into the region's political and social history. It winds through a Mediterranean landscape of diverse trees and alongside streams.
