Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. Take the EO20 road towards Sami. Continue on this road for approximately 30 minutes, enjoying the scenic views. As you approach Sami, look for signs directing you to Pyrgaki or the village of Pylaros. Turn onto the road towards Pyrgaki and follow it until you reach the village of Pylaros. The cave is located near Pyrlaeoi, specifically at the coordinates (38.3376, 20.5237). Be aware that the last 5 km may be on a narrow road, so drive cautiously. There is no dedicated parking at the cave, but you can park in the nearby village and walk the remaining distance.

    If you prefer to use public transportation, take a bus from Argostoli to Sami. Buses run regularly, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. Once in Sami, you will need to walk to the nearest point where you can catch a taxi to Pyrlaeoi, as public transport does not directly reach the cave. Taxis are available in Sami, and the fare should be around €20 to take you to Gianiskari Cave. The taxi ride will take approximately 15 minutes. Make sure to confirm the driver's willingness to take you to the cave, as some may only drive to the village.
