Monument of War: A Place of Remembrance

The Monument of War in Palio Mikro Chorio stands as a solemn reminder of the devastating landslide that struck the village on January 13, 1963. After 13 days of continuous rain, a significant portion of Mount Kri collapsed, destroying many homes and claiming the lives of thirteen locals. This monument commemorates those victims.Palio Mikro Chorio is located approximately 10 km from Karpenisi at the foot of Mount Helidona. The village is known for its traditional architecture and picturesque fountains in the main square. A small lake was formed at the village entrance as a result of the landslide. Visitors can also explore the Folklore Museum housed in the old school, which features rare photographs documenting the village's history. The church of Metamorfosi Sotiros is another point of interest; tradition holds that Markos Botsaris prayed here in 1823 before the battle of Kefalovrysso.The park itself is beautifully landscaped with greenery, flowers, and trees, offering a peaceful environment for contemplation. It provides a space for visitors to reflect on the past and appreciate the resilience of the community.
