The area is part of the Natura 2000 network, recognized for its importance in conserving rare plant species like the Paeonia clusii subsp. rhodia and various orchids, as well as animal species like the fallow deer (Dama dama) and the Rhodes badger.At the summit, visitors can explore the ruins of a temple dedicated to Zeus Atabyrios, built by Althaemenes, who, according to Greek mythology, chose this location as the closest point to the gods and the only place from which he could see his homeland of Crete.
