Villa Melnik: A Modern Winery Rooted in Ancient Tradition

Nestled in the serene Harsovo region, Villa Melnik stands as a testament to Bulgaria's rich viticultural heritage. This family-owned winery seamlessly blends tradition with modern techniques, offering visitors an immersive experience in the art of winemaking. With a documented history spanning over two centuries, Villa Melnik continues a family legacy of vine growing and winemaking. The estate encompasses 30 hectares of vineyards, cultivated with both indigenous and international grape varieties. These include Broad-leaved Melnik Vine (Shiroka Melnik), Early Melnik Vine (Melnik 55), Ruen, and Mavrud, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and others. The winery's location, cradled by the Pirin, Belasitsa, and Slavyanka mountains, enjoys a favorable Mediterranean climate and unique terroir. The modern winery, which opened in 2013, is built on three levels, incorporating a gravity-flow system for gentle wine production. Visitors can explore the underground cellars, carved into the sandy hill, where wines age in oak barrels under constant temperature and humidity. The tasting room offers panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards. Villa Melnik welcomes guests daily for tours and tastings, providing an opportunity to discover the distinct Melnik character in each wine.
