The Zincirli Mosque, located in the southwestern part of the city of Serres, is a testament to the city's Ottoman past. This medium-sized mosque features a central, square prayer hall surrounded by a two-story colonnaded arcade on its eastern, northern, and western sides. The 'qibla,' indicating the direction of Mecca, is situated on the southern side, while the entrance is on the north. The central prayer hall is covered by a dome, while the arcades are covered with keel-shaped vaults. In the southwestern corner of the building, the 'minbar' (pulpit) stands, crafted from marble and considered one of the finest surviving examples of its kind in Greece. The entrance features a column-supported portico, topped with small domes over the spaces between the columns. The mosque's architecture and layout are characteristic of the late 16th century, following the style of the renowned architect Mimar Sinan, mirroring similar structures from the same era in Istanbul. Constructed with dressed or rough stones enclosed by bricks, the portico is built entirely of carefully dressed limestone.
