Discover more about Digital Spot Christoforos Shipwreck

Located in Agnontas port on the island of Skopelos, the Digital Spot is a unique attraction providing insight into the Christoforos shipwreck, which rests in Panormos Bay. The center features virtual reality (VR) technology that allows visitors to experience a virtual dive of the wreck. This immersive experience is enhanced by digital displays showcasing the history of the Christoforos, a cargo ship that sank in 1983, and information about other shipwrecks in the region. The Christoforos, originally named Thomas Hardie, was built in Scotland in 1950. The 85-meter-long vessel transported 2,600 tons of cement from Volos to Piraeus when it encountered severe weather. The ship sought refuge in Panormos Bay, but ultimately sank. Today, it sits upright at a depth of 43 meters, becoming a popular diving site since it was opened to the public in 2018. The Digital Spot enhances the diving experience by allowing divers to preview the wreck and non-divers to explore it virtually. The VR system recreates the underwater environment, including the marine life that has colonized the ship. The center also provides information about the efforts to make the wreck accessible for diving, a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, the Thessaly Region, and the Skopelos Diving Center.
