Delta Nestos National Park, located in northeastern Greece near the village of Porto Lagos, is a sprawling expanse of natural beauty renowned for its biodiversity and unique ecosystems. Covering a significant area where the Nestos River meets the Aegean Sea, this national park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.The park features lush forests, wetlands, and stunning river delta formations. It is home to over 277 bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican, eagles and a stable population of over 5,000 pink flamingos. The Nestos River offers opportunities for kayaking and canoeing.Delta Nestos National Park also holds cultural significance, with archaeological sites and ancient ruins scattered throughout the area. The park is part of the National Park of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, established in 2008, and is the largest national park in Greece. It is also protected by the Ramsar and Natura 2000 conventions. The area called Kodja Orman (big forest) is one of the largest forest areas in Greece.
