Originally established in 1887, the stadium has undergone several transformations, most recently being rebuilt in 2006 after destruction by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Primarily a cricket ground, it hosts international matches such as the Cricket World Cup, International Test Matches, Caribbean Premier League, and regional games. The stadium became the 84th Test venue in 2002, hosting West Indies vs. New Zealand. Besides cricket, the stadium hosts football matches, carnival activities, and cultural events. The athletic stadium next to it hosts athletic and football events. The stadium has a capacity of approximately 15,000-20,000. Its ends are known as the River End and D'Arbeau End. The elongated oval shape gives it a unique baseball-like appearance. The venue offers a vibrant Caribbean atmosphere with local food and drinks available.
