Discover more about Ritidian Point

Ritidian Point, or Puntan Litekyan as it's known in the native Chamoru language, meaning 'a stirring place,' is a captivating destination located at the northernmost tip of Guam. This protected sanctuary, encompassing approximately 1,217 acres, combines natural beauty with a rich cultural history. As part of the Guam National Wildlife Refuge, Ritidian Point offers visitors a chance to explore pristine white-sand beaches, hike through lush wilderness, and discover remnants of an ancient Chamorro village. The area's history stretches back thousands of years, with archeological discoveries revealing a fishing camp dating back over 3,000 years. Ritidian Point was once a thriving Chamorro village, and remnants of this past, including latte stones and pottery fragments, can still be found throughout the refuge. In more recent history, the area was used as a copra plantation in the 1920s and later as a high-security Navy communications station during the Cold War. Today, Ritidian Point is a haven for wildlife, including the endangered Mariana fruit bat, Mariana crow, and green sea turtles. Hiking trails wind through diverse landscapes, from dense coconut groves to soaring limestone cliffs, offering opportunities to spot native flora and fauna. The Latte Loop Trail passes by a preserved latte stone and a Spanish stone well, while the Ritidian Caves Trail leads to unique cave formations and stunning coastal views. The refuge is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., offering a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with Guam's natural and cultural heritage.
