Discover more about The Guam National Wildlife Refuge Ritidian Unit Visitor Center

The Guam National Wildlife Refuge, specifically the Ritidian Unit (also known as Puntan Litekyan), offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance on the northernmost tip of Guam. This unit, the only section of the refuge open to the public, encompasses approximately 1,217 acres, including both terrestrial and submerged areas. Established in 1993, the Ritidian Unit serves as a critical habitat for endangered species like the Mariana fruit bat, Guam Micronesian Kingfisher, and Mariana crow. Visitors can explore diverse landscapes, from white-sand beaches and limestone cliffs to lush forests. The area is also rich in Chamorro history, with remnants of an ancient village, including latte stones, pottery fragments, and cave drawings, offering glimpses into Guam's pre-colonial past. The Ritidian Unit provides various activities, including hiking on well-maintained trails, wildlife viewing, and exploring cultural sites. The Nature Center offers interpretive displays about the refuge's natural environment and history. Keep in mind that swimming can be dangerous due to strong currents, and there are no lifeguards on duty. The refuge is generally open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but may be closed due to hazardous weather conditions.
