Discover more about Gun Beach, Tumon

Gun Beach, or Gongna Beach, is a unique destination on Guam, blending natural beauty with historical significance. Located at the northern end of Tumon Bay, it's easily accessible and offers a variety of activities for visitors. The beach gets its name from a Japanese gun emplacement from World War II, the remnants of which can still be seen today. These historical structures serve as a reminder of Guam's role in the Pacific War. The most prominent feature is the gun emplacement with an attached pillbox, about 25 meters inland from the high tide line. Gun Beach is also known for its excellent snorkeling opportunities. The clear, serene waters are home to diverse marine life and vibrant coral reefs. Snorkelers can spot colorful fish, sea turtles, and other fascinating creatures. The outer reef, about 60 meters from the beach, is particularly rewarding, with a stunning diversity of coral and dense underwater life. However, it's recommended for stronger swimmers, especially when the water is choppy. Beyond snorkeling and history, Gun Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The sunsets are particularly stunning, offering a perfect backdrop for an evening stroll. The Beach Bar located nearby provides a spot for refreshments and relaxation. While the beach is generally safe for swimming, it's important to exercise caution and be aware of the conditions. The currents and tides can be strong, and it's advisable to stay within the reef. Protective beach shoes are recommended due to the rocky shoreline.
